Delta Dental of Massachusetts Honors Four Oral Health Heroes in Inaugural Award Program
Oral Health Heroes recognizes the exceptional work of oral health professionals in Massachusetts, with winners receiving a $5,000 award to donate to the nonprofit of their choice
BOSTON — April 17, 2025 — Delta Dental of Massachusetts (DDMA), the leading dental benefits administrator in the state, announced the winners of its inaugural Oral Health Heroes program, recognizing the exceptional work of dental professionals across Massachusetts.
The Oral Health Heroes program honors four individuals or organizations across the Commonwealth who were nominated by their peers for outstanding efforts advancing oral health access and improving the oral health ecosystem. Each honoree receives a $5,000 award to donate to the nonprofit organization of their choice.
“Massachusetts has some of the best dental providers in the country, and we’re pleased to recognize their outstanding contributions to our community through the Oral Health Heroes awards. Each of the four heroes selected has made a meaningful impact—from increasing access to dental care to advancing innovative technologies and approaches—and Delta Dental is proud to celebrate their work.”

The 2025 Oral Health Heroes
Dmitry Burshteyn, Co-Founder and CEO, Progressive Dental Management & Smile Land Dental
What began as a partnership to improve the dental experience evolved into a network of practices focused on inclusive, specialty care—especially for children who have faced barriers to access or negative care experiences. Burshteyn has chosen to donate his $5,000 award to Boston Career Institute, a nonprofit dedicated to health career education with a strong focus on dental assisting.
“Our mission has always been to redefine the dental experience, ensuring it is outstanding for every patient. We are committed to sparking joy in dental care and transforming how people view their dental journey.”
Nicole M. Ford, DMD, The Center for Advanced Dental Care
From embracing cutting-edge dental technologies to serving those with limited access to care, Dr. Ford prioritizes quality dental care for all. She is donating her $5,000 award to Dental Lifeline Network, which provides comprehensive dental care to vulnerable community members.
“Being recognized means that we have been doing something right to stand out. I’m happy that we are making a difference in the oral health world—the more welcoming and respectful care environments we create, the better for our community.”
Ellen Downing Gould, Founder, Polished DNTL LLC and Brush Up Inc
A licensed dental hygienist with more than 24 years in public health dentistry, Ellen Downing Gould delivers preventive care and educational experiences to students across Massachusetts through school-based programs.
“Being selected as an Oral Health Hero is an honor. This recognition reflects the years my team and I have dedicated to preventing dental disease while providing a positive experience for all of our patients.”
Lisa LaSpina, Immediate Past President, Better Oral Health for Massachusetts Coalition
Dr. LaSpina is an associate professor at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Forsyth School of Dental Hygiene and a longtime advocate for oral health equity through education, advocacy, and coalition-building.
“By bringing individuals and organizations together to collaborate on critical oral health issues, we can eliminate barriers to care and improve overall health for residents throughout the Commonwealth.”
