Delta Dental Will Match Massachusetts Dental Society’s Donation to Support Local Dental Students Struggling with Food Insecurity

BOSTON — March 21, 2025 — Delta Dental of Massachusetts (DDMA), the leading dental benefits administrator in the state, announced that it will match a grant made by the Massachusetts Dental Society (MDS) to support local dental students facing food insecurity. The MDS grant provided $28,000 to food pantries serving students at three Boston-area dental schools: Boston University, Harvard University, and Tufts University. Delta Dental has pledged to match these donations in support of the dental workforce.

Through this commitment, DDMA will support food pantries at Harvard, Tufts, and Boston University and is encouraging other insurance carriers to step up and join the matching effort to address food insecurity among dental students.

Earlier this week, MDS highlighted the growing challenge of food insecurity among dental students, noting that food costs have risen 23% over the past five years. A recent survey also revealed that 80% of students at one dental school would use a food pantry if one were available.
